Voluntary Retirement Scheme for GDS Employees: Medical Ground
The Voluntary Retirement Scheme for GDS employees is a helpful option for Gramin Dak Seva (GDS) workers who may face serious health issues that stop them from being able to continue their work. This scheme offers a way for GDS employees who are permanently affected by a disease or injury to retire voluntarily, ensuring they are not left without support.
Options Under Voluntary Retirement Scheme for GDS Employees
The scheme gives GDS employees two choices if they are unable to work due to a long-term illness or disability:
Option A: Staying on a Different Post or Supernumerary Post
If a GDS worker is no longer able to do their current job but doesn’t want to quit, they can be reassigned to a new role. This role might not be the same pay grade (TRCA), but it will be more suitable for their abilities. If no new job can be found, they can be placed on a special post, called a supernumerary post, until they reach the age of 65 or until a suitable job is available.
Option B: Voluntary Permanent Retirement
For those who prefer to leave their work entirely, this option allows them to retire permanently. However, there are certain steps to follow, like submitting an application and going through a medical check-up.
Conditions for Voluntary Retirement Scheme for GDS Employees.
The following conditions must be met for GDS employees to engage with this scheme-
- Filling Out an Application: If a GDS worker wants to retire, they need to fill out an application form. If they can’t do this themselves due to their illness or disability, their spouse or a family member over 18 years old can submit it for them.
- Medical Check-Up: After the application is submitted, the GDS employee must go to a doctor (like a Civil Surgeon or District Medical Officer) to be checked. The doctor will decide whether the employee can still work or if they are permanently unfit.
- Approval of the Medical Certificate: The medical report must be approved by the Department. If the doctor says the employee can still do lighter work, the employee will be offered a new job. If the doctor says they are completely unfit, the employee’s request to retire will be accepted right away.
- Approval from Divisional Head: The final decision to accept the retirement request is made by the Divisional Head. The retirement will be effective from the day the request is accepted.
- Completely Voluntary: It’s important to note that this scheme is entirely voluntary. No one will be forced to retire under this scheme.
- Exclusion: The scheme is not available for employees who are suspended or are facing disciplinary or legal issues.
Retirement Benefits Under Voluntary Retirement Scheme for GDS Employees
GDS employees who retire under this scheme will receive benefits based on how long they have worked. If the employee leaves before completing 10 years of service, they will not receive any financial benefits.
